CAN 2025 : l’Algérie et Luca Zidane sanctionnés
As expected, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has taken strong action following the incidents that occurred during the Algeria-Nigeria quarter-final (0-2), played on January 10. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has been officially informed of the sanctions.
Luca Zidane has been handed a two-match suspension for his altercation with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru after the final whistle. The goalkeeper will therefore miss the first two rounds of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
For his part, Rafik Belghali is suspended for four matches, two of which are suspended, after violently attacking the refereeing body, in particular the central referee Issa Sy.
The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has also been heavily penalized financially. It will have to pay $95,000 in fines for various incidents: a general brawl, inappropriate behavior by players and officials, the use of flares, an attempted pitch invasion, and offensive gestures by supporters towards referees.
The Algerian federation announced that it had initiated an appeal process to challenge these decisions.
