CAN-2025 : incertitude autour d’Habib Diarra et d’Assane Diao
With one month to go before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, uncertainty hangs over the participation of Habib Diarra and Assane Diao. The two Senegalese talents, returning from injury, did not take part in the November international window against Brazil (0-2) and Kenya (8-0).
Having undergone surgery for a groin injury on September 23rd, Habib Diarra still hopes to play in the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal. The 21-year-old midfielder is expected to return to competition at the beginning of December. But will he be fit enough to participate in the premier African football tournament? His manager at Sunderland, Régis Le Bris, is very pessimistic and warns against a rushed return that could jeopardize the player's health.
First selected for the national team in March 2025 against Sudan and Togo, Assane Diao hasn't worn the national jersey since. The young winger from Como, in Italy's Serie A, is gradually returning from injury. Despite being included in the squad against Brazil and Kenya, he was ultimately forced to return to his club, casting doubt on his availability for the Africa Cup of Nations. Will both young players be fit in time for AFCON 2025?
Even though Senegal has a large pool of talent, illustrated recently by the emergence of Ibrahim Mbaye and Mamadou Sarr, the simultaneous absence of Habib Diarra and Assane Diao would be a real blow for the Lions.
