CAN MAROC-2025 : Aubameyang forfait pour l’entrée en lice du Gabon
A major blow for Gabon's Panthers ahead of their first match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will miss the opening game against Cameroon. The Gabonese striker, currently playing for Olympique de Marseille, has a thigh injury.
The 36-year-old Gabon captain was injured on Sunday during Marseille's 1-0 victory against AS Monaco, leaving the pitch in the 86th minute. Following examinations, the verdict was confirmed: Aubameyang will miss the crucial match against the Indomitable Lions on December 24th.
In a statement, the Gabonese Football Federation specified that the player's medical treatment will take place in Marseille, in agreement with the national team staff. "The player is unavailable for the match against Cameroon. Depending on the clinical progress and imaging results, his participation in the match against Mozambique on December 28 remains possible," Fegafoot stated.
With 39 goals in 81 appearances, Aubameyang remains the Panthers' main attacking threat. His absence for the opening match complicates matters for Gabon, who must then face Mozambique before concluding the group stage against Ivory Coast on December 31st.
