AFCON Morocco 2025: Efficient Super Eagles secure a second consecutive victory and advance to the round of 16

Nigeria, the reigning African vice-champions, have qualified for the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles secured a second consecutive victory by dominating Tunisia (3-2), a success largely driven by their duo of former African Footballer of the Year winners, Viktor Osimhen (2023) and Ademola Lookman (2024).

Just minutes before halftime, Viktor Osimhen broke the deadlock, converting a perfect cross from Lookman (44th minute). The in-form Atalanta striker was again decisive after the break, providing an assist for Wilfried Ndidi's second Nigerian goal (50th minute).

Having scored the opening goal, Osimhen then turned provider, setting up Ademola Lookman for the third goal (67th minute). But from that moment on, Nigeria gradually lost their grip on the game.

Eric Sékou Chelle's men initially conceded a goal from a fine header by Mountasser Taldi (74th minute). A few minutes later, the referee awarded Tunisia a penalty. Abdi, tasked with taking it, converted the spot-kick and put the Nigerian defense under considerable pressure.

In the final five minutes, the Tunisians laid siege to the Super Eagles' goal, desperately trying to snatch an equalizer. Nigeria struggled, but managed to hold onto their lead and ultimately secured a 3-2 victory.

Thanks to this valuable victory, Nigeria has secured its place in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
