The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is a competition as unpredictable as it is surprising. The overwhelming favorite is rarely the one to lift the trophy. Furthermore, there are those smaller nations that create a stir by qualifying for the first time in their history for the Round of 16 or quarterfinals of the AFCON. This was the case for Cape Verde, Madagascar, and even Benin in recent editions.

We will have "a final luxury square"
For Senegalese international Moussa Niakhaté, the answer is clearly "no".
“I think this is the first AFCON where there won’t be any surprises. The conditions will be so close to what we experience on a daily basis (in Europe), that it will really favor the big nations. Everyone had always hoped for a luxury final four and I think that will be the case for this edition,” the Senegalese defender said in a video published on Olympique Lyonnais’ YouTube channel.
The Roubaix native also discussed the favorites for the final victory. Unsurprisingly, he mentioned his country, Senegal, Morocco, the host country, and Ivory Coast or Algeria.
