CAN Maroc 2025 : l’incroyable histoire de l’attaquant burkinabè qui joue avec un seul œil
Scoring Burkina Faso's equalizer in the Stallions' stunning victory over Equatorial Guinea, Georgi Minoungou embodies a story of extraordinary courage and resilience. The Burkinabe striker plays with only one eye.
Born in Ivory Coast, Georgi Minoungou began his European career in the Czech league with MFK Vyškov. Later transferred to the United States to play for Seattle Sounders FC, his career took a dramatic turn when he suffered a severe eye infection. The subsequent surgery left him virtually blind in his left eye.
A serious handicap, but one that never dampened his passion or ambition. "It was one of the most difficult moments of my life. I was almost in the first team when I had to have surgery. But this handicap doesn't limit me. I even think I can do better than someone who has both eyes. That's my mentality," he confided.
Having moved from the reserve team to the Seattle Sounders' first team in 2024, the young striker confirmed his rise by signing a long-term contract with the Washington State franchise, tying him to the club until 2028.
At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Georgi Minoungou symbolizes this twist of fate: a player who, despite adversity, continues to dream and shine, carried by courage, faith and exemplary resilience.
