CAN Maroc 2025 : Maroc / Cameroun, un choc des géants pour une place dans le dernier carré

Host nation and overwhelming favorite for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco faces Cameroon in the quarterfinals in a clash with all the hallmarks of a rematch. Fueled by exceptional momentum and their home crowd, the Atlas Lions are eager to end their fifty-year drought. But their opponents, an ambitious young Cameroonian generation, promise an intense battle for a place in the semifinals.

The Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat promises to be electric for this highly anticipated quarter-final between Morocco and Cameroon. As hosts of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco enters the tournament as the overwhelming favorite. Fueled by their home crowd, the Atlas Lions are eager to end a nearly fifty-year drought without a continental title, their last triumph dating back to 1976.

This ambition is fueled by the exceptional momentum of Moroccan football. The year 2025 will be etched in history with an impressive haul of trophies: the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, the African Nations Championship, the U20 World Cup, and the Arab Cup of Nations. These achievements demonstrate the strength of the Moroccan sporting project and reinforce the hope of another continental title for the senior national team.

Under the guidance of Walid Regragui, Morocco displays great composure and unwavering confidence. Their defensive solidity, collective control, and attacking efficiency make the Atlas Lions a formidable team. Playing in front of their home crowd is a definite advantage, but also adds extra pressure.

Facing them, Cameroon arrives with no inferiority complex. The Indomitable Lions rely on a new generation brimming with talent and ambition. Carlos Baleba, Koffane, Etta Eyong, and Bryan Mbeumo embody this Cameroonian resurgence. Young, explosive, and determined, they want to write their own history and bring Cameroon back to the pinnacle of African football.

Memories are not kind to Morocco. During the last Africa Cup of Nations hosted on its soil in 1988, it was eliminated in the semi-finals by the same Cameroon (1-0). This trauma remains fresh in their minds and serves as a reminder that the Indomitable Lions know how to travel and upset favorites.

While Achraf Hakimi's Morocco are the favorites, this match promises to be anything but easy. Cameroon, with their experience of five AFCON titles and their carefree attitude, fully intends to cause an upset. Between the fervor of the Moroccan crowd and the Cameroonian spirit, this quarter-final promises an intense, hard-fought, and emotionally charged duel. A clash of giants where the slightest mistake could be fatal.
