Demba Mamadou Traoré, the coach of Mali's U17 team, was dismissed from his position on Monday, May 25, 2026. This decision, made by the president of the Malian Football Federation (Femafoot), Mahazou, known as "Baba Cisset," comes the day after the Young Eagles' defeat in the quarterfinals of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations being held in Morocco. A decision that "is in line with a logic of results, sporting excellence and institutional responsibility"
According to a statement from Femafoot, the president of the Executive Committee called the Malian coach to inform him of his dismissal before sending an official letter. Demba Mamadou Traoré was thanked for his work, commitment, and efforts during his time in charge of Mali's U17 national team.
For President Mahazou, his decision to dismiss the coach "is part of a logic of results, sporting requirements and institutional responsibility".
He says he does not question Demba Mamadou Traoré's human and professional qualities and wishes him every success for the rest of his career.
