Ligue des champions : L’Atalanta renverse Dortmund et file en 8es de finale
Having lost the first leg 2-0 to Dortmund, Atalanta Bergamo staged an incredible comeback on Wednesday in the return leg, defeating the Germans 4-1. This impressive performance secured the Italians' place in the round of 16.
Fueled by a large and ecstatic crowd, Atalanta got off to a perfect start, opening the scoring in the 5th minute thanks to Scamacca. An ideal beginning that immediately reignited the suspense.
Just before the break, Zappacosta, with a superb strike, allowed his team to make up their deficit on the aggregate of the two matches (45th).
Upon returning from the locker room, Mario Pasalic gave Atalanta the lead by scoring Italy's third goal in the 57th minute, putting his team ahead on aggregate over the two matches.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Dortmund attempted to respond. Karim Adeyemi reduced the deficit in the 75th minute, giving his team renewed hope and creating a nail-biting finish.
But the Italians weren't finished yet. In stoppage time, Atalanta were awarded a penalty. Samardzic made no mistake from the spot, sealing his team's qualification in the 98th minute.
A memorable evening for Atalanta, who confirm their European solidity and continue their adventure in the Champions League.
