Newcastle United took a decisive step towards qualifying for the Champions League round of 16. Playing away in Azerbaijan, the Magpies completely outclassed Qarabag FK with a resounding 6-1 victory.

Man of the match Anthony Gordon delivered an exceptional performance, scoring four goals (3rd, 32nd (penalty), 33rd and 45th+2 (penalty). The English winger was the architect of this attacking masterclass from the Magpies.

The other goals for England were scored by German international of Senegalese origin Malick Thiaw (8th) and by Jacob Murphy (72nd).

Thanks to this resounding away victory, Newcastle United are now very close to qualifying for the round of 16 before the second leg.
