Ligue des champions: Tchouaméni célèbre une "victoire contre le racisme" après la qualification du Real
Real Madrid's French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni celebrated a "victory against racism" on Wednesday after his team qualified for the Champions League round of 16 at the expense of Benfica (2-1), in reference to the accusations against Argentinian Gianluca Prestianni.
"We didn't play our best game of the season, that's for sure. But I believe there are things more important than this game, and more important than football," Tchouaméni said in the mixed zone.
Asked about the decisive goal by Brazilian Vinicius Junior, who had accused Prestianni of calling him a "monkey" in the first leg, the French international referred to it as "a victory for all those who are against racism".
Tchouaméni, who scored the equalizing goal and was named man of the match, felt that the provisional suspension of the Argentinian player, confirmed on Wednesday by UEFA, was "the best decision" to make.
The French midfielder was one of the players to defend Vinicius Junior after the first-leg incident, claiming that the Brazilian had told his teammates that Prestianni had "called him a monkey while hiding under his shirt".
Furthermore, Real Madrid announced in a statement published after the match that they had requested the expulsion of a supporter filmed "making a Nazi salute (and) immediately expelled from the stadium".
