Corruption : Florentino Pérez relance la polémique autour du Barça
Florentino Pérez reignited tensions by declaring: " It is not normal for Barcelona to pay more than 8 million euros to the vice-president of referees for 17 years, whatever the reason. This period also coincides with the time when the club won the most trophies. "
A highly significant media appearance that reignites an already explosive case, still closely monitored by the Spanish justice system. As a reminder, FC Barcelona is suspected of having paid approximately €7.3 million between 2001 and 2018 to companies linked to José María Enríquez Negreira, former vice-president of the referees' technical committee.
The Catalan club claims that these were only technical reports intended to analyze the referees, while the prosecutor's office suspects a possible attempt to influence competitions.
These payments, which stopped after Negreira's departure in 2018, remain at the center of an investigation for active and passive corruption.
Barça continues to deny any intention of manipulating matches, but Florentino Pérez's comments show that the matter remains a hot topic and continues to fuel the sporting and institutional divide between Madrid and Barcelona.
