Coupe du monde 2026 : Breel Embolo bloqué par un problème administratif pour rallier les États-Unis
Just days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, the Swiss national team departed for the United States on Tuesday. However, star striker Breel Embolo was unable to join his teammates due to an administrative issue with his travel authorization.
According to the Swiss Football Association (ASF), the 29-year-old player was prevented from boarding after the reopening of the examination of his ESTA file, the electronic document essential for entering the United States.
“Unfortunately, Breel Embolo cannot travel to the United States with the team at the moment. His ESTA authorization was still approved until this morning. At 10:30 a.m., however, we were informed that his ESTA file was once again undergoing further review,” explained the ASF in comments relayed by L’Équipe.
Despite this situation, Swiss football officials are trying to reassure everyone. They have indicated that they are in contact with the relevant American authorities and hope that the striker will be able to rejoin the team soon.
"We assume that Breel will join the team either today or tomorrow," added the Swiss body.
Switzerland therefore remains confident about the presence of its striker for the start of the competition, which will kick off in nine days in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
