Coupe du monde 2026 : Cher Ndour explique pourquoi il soutiendra le Sénégal
Although he has chosen to represent Italy internationally, Cher Ndour remains deeply attached to Senegal, his father's country. In an interview with Rai Sport, the Fiorentina midfielder reaffirmed his connection to his Senegalese roots and his support for the Lions of Teranga in the 2026 World Cup.
Having enjoyed a remarkable season with Fiorentina, the 21-year-old has established himself as one of the team's most important players. With seven goals and three assists in 47 matches across all competitions, he has confirmed his immense potential at the highest level.
Long rumored to be on the radar of the Senegalese national team, particularly during Aliou Cissé's tenure, Cher Ndour has finally received his first call-up to the Italian national team. The midfielder is expected to make his debut for the Azzurri in the upcoming friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.
This call-up definitively brings the player, who was developed at Benfica and also played for Paris Saint-Germain and Braga, closer to the Italian national team. This choice seems to close the door on a future international career with Senegal, a country he has always held dear.
“My mother is Italian, my father is Senegalese but he has lived in Italy for almost 30 years. My culture is mainly Italian, but I remain connected to Senegal. I have family there and I often go there on vacation. So I will support Senegal at the World Cup, since Italy will unfortunately not be present ,” he said in an interview with Rai Sport.
