Coupe du monde 2026 : Donald Trump s’interroge sur le niveau de l’équipe d’Iran
While FIFA President Gianni Infantino reaffirmed on Thursday Iran's participation in the 2026 World Cup, including matches played in the United States, despite political tensions between the two countries, Donald Trump also endorsed the Iranian team's presence, while expressing reservations about its level.
When questioned at the White House, the American president expressed support for the decision, though not without a hint of skepticism: "If Gianni said so, I agree. Let them play. (...) He talked about it and I told him: 'Do what you want.' They probably have a good team... It's hard to believe, but I think we should let them play," he said.
During the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, Iran will play its first two matches in Los Angeles against New Zealand and Belgium, before traveling to Seattle to face Egypt.
