With 45 days to go until the start of the USA-Canada-Mexico World Cup, Ivory Coast could receive a significant boost to their defense. Young Strasbourg center-back Ismaël Doukouré (22 years old) is indeed close to joining the Elephants.
Having represented France internationally at youth levels up to the Espoirs category, Doukouré has begun the process of representing the Ivory Coast national team.
According to Sport News Africa, the player went to the Ivory Coast consulate in Paris on Monday to complete the administrative formalities necessary for this change of sporting nationality.
If he finalizes his decision, he could join his teammates Martial Godo and Guéla Doué in the national team, as well as Nice striker Elye Wahi, who also opted to represent Ivory Coast last March. This momentum could significantly strengthen the Ivorian squad ahead of the World Cup.
As a reminder, Ivory Coast is in Group E with Germany, Ecuador and Curaçao.
