Coupe du monde 2026 : la RD Congo contrainte à un isolement sanitaire à cause d’Ebola
Just weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is facing an unprecedented situation. According to ESPN and AFP, US authorities have imposed a strict 21-day quarantine period on the Congolese national team before their entry into the United States, due to the resurgence of the Ebola virus in the country.
Currently in training camp in Belgium, the Leopards were forced to immediately place themselves in a sanitary bubble in order to guarantee their participation in the world tournament.
Andrew Giuliani, head of the World Cup unit at the White House, specified that any new person joining the delegation will have to be isolated separately to avoid any risk of contamination.
US authorities fear that a potential symptomatic case within the team could jeopardize the DRC's participation in the competition. The Congolese are scheduled to set up their base camp in Houston and begin their World Cup campaign on June 17 against Portugal, before facing Colombia and then Uzbekistan.
At the same time, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued an international health alert following a new Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC. Several dozen cases have already been identified, with several deaths confirmed.
