While the worst-case scenario could see Senegal in a group with Spain, Norway, and Jordan, the Lions could also land in a group well within their reach. Following the official release of the World Cup seeding pots, here's what could be the best possible draw for Pape Thiaw's men.
In Pot 1, the most manageable nation appears to be Canada. Ranked 27th in the FIFA rankings, it's the lowest-ranked country among the 12 in Pot 1. Despite playing at home, the Canucks are not expected to be favorites against the Lions.
In Pot 3, Senegal will not face any of the five African nations in that pot, as stipulated by FIFA (only European countries can play each other in the group stage). Panama, ranked 30th in the FIFA rankings, seems well within reach for the Lions, as does Uzbekistan, ranked 50th in the world. The Panamanians have some well-known players, such as Marseille's Amir Murillo, but on paper, they will clearly be the underdogs against Senegal's formidable squad.
Pot 4 will also include several European teams (who will compete in the playoffs), but as things stand, the countries in this pot are still far behind Senegal. Haiti, and the newcomers from Curaçao, could be a favorable draw for the Lions.
