His recent contract extension with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia has made Cristiano Ronaldo the richest footballer in the world. The 40-year-old Portuguese striker is expected to reach a personal net worth of €1 billion in 2025.
The jackpot, ladies and gentlemen... Exiled in Saudi Arabia since 2023, Cristiano Ronaldo has generously filled his wallet with Al-Nassr. With an annual contract estimated at around €200 million, the 40-year-old Portuguese remains the highest-paid player in the world of football. With his contract expiring last June, CR7 was the subject of numerous rumors but ended up re-signing with the Riyadh club.
A two-year extension, at the same rate as the previous lease, i.e. €400 million until 2027, which allowed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to become the first billionaire footballer with a fortune estimated at around €1.4 billion according to the financial media Bloomberg.
Despite rumors surrounding the valuation of GF Biochemicals, former French national team player Mathieu Flamini remains discreet about his personal fortune. David Beckham, for his part, sees his wealth estimated at just over €400 million.
Cristiano Ronaldo happy in Saudi Arabia
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star is happy in Saudi Arabia where he wears the captain's armband for Al-Nassr and plays alongside several big names in world football such as Sadio Mané, Marcelo Brozovic, Kingsley Coman and Joao Felix.
Always an undisputed member of the home team, Cristiano Ronaldo has already scored five goals in six matches across all competitions this season. Above all, the string of matches in Saudi Arabia also allows him to stay sharp to continue his adventure with the Portuguese national team before the 2026 World Cup in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The only (big) drawback since the start of his golden exile in the Saudi Premier League is that Cristiano Ronaldo has still not managed to win the league title.
Messi to become a billionaire thanks to Inter Miami?
Long in contention with Cristiano Ronaldo for the title of world's highest-paid player, Lionel Messi was left behind when the 40-year-old striker moved to Saudi Arabia. After a two-year stint at PSG, "La Pulga" chose to head to MLS and Inter Miami despite approaches from the Gulf.
But while CR7 is now outpacing his eternal Argentinian rival in terms of wealth, Lionel Messi has reportedly negotiated a stake in the Florida franchise after his retirement. This could ultimately allow him to generate new income and potentially catch up with Cristiano Ronaldo in the ranking of the world's richest footballers.
