In preparation for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSS) is ramping up its initiatives in the host cities. After Dakar and Diamniadio, the Olympic institution continued its values education program in Saly, with a particular focus on environmental protection.

Maguette Touré Ngom, CNOSS's administrative and financial manager in charge of programs, reminded everyone that the committee's mission is not limited to organizing sporting events.

"Since Senegal was chosen to host the Youth Olympic Games, we have intensified our activities in schools through the Olympic values education program," she explained.

Led by the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Academy, this program aims to instill in young people the fundamental principles of Olympism, particularly respect, a value considered universal. "Respect also means respect for the environment," emphasized Ms. Ngom.

Within this framework, the "Little Eco-Heroes" activity was organized in five schools in Saly, following five in Dakar and five in Diamniadio. Accompanied by an environmental expert, the delegation introduced the students to selective sorting and waste recovery. Cardboard, plastics, metals: the young people learned to separate them and understand that waste can become a resource.

The stated objective goes beyond the 2026 deadline. The CNOSS, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, aims to deploy this activity in all schools across the country in order to leave a lasting legacy.

Abdoulaye Diatta, a literature teacher at the Saly middle school, praised this initiative, which he described as "constructive and beneficial." The trained students will, in turn, be able to raise awareness among their peers and families. He noted that his school has already undertaken initiatives to promote a clean school environment, with visible results.

The students, for their part, say they are satisfied. Fatou Bintou Fall, in 9th grade, says she has learned a lot about waste management and the importance of protecting the environment. "It makes us think more about our daily behavior," she said.
