With the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games approaching, the Organizing Committee (COJOJ) is ramping up preparations for delegation accommodations. A key alignment meeting was held in Dakar this Wednesday, bringing together major players from the hospitality sector and COJOJ officials to review commitments and prepare for the operational phase.
The discussions centered on implementing a tripartite agreement between the COJOJ, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Federation of Professional Tourism Industry Organizations. The goal is to clarify the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder in hosting the thousands of expected participants.
According to Ibrahima Wade, Coordinator of the COJOJ, this meeting marks a crucial step following the signing of accommodation contracts. "We have brought hoteliers together for a workshop to exchange and align. We have signed agreements with 74 hotel establishments located in Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly," he stated.
These agreements represent a total of 5,200 rooms, deemed sufficient to meet the accommodation needs of delegations and officials. The official praised the involvement of sector professionals, particularly under the leadership of their representatives, who successfully rallied 3, 4, and 5-star hotels around this common goal.
Beyond signing contracts, the challenge now is to ensure service delivery meets international standards. "It was important to begin the delivery phase, share expectations regarding service quality, and ensure that Senegal demonstrates its capacity to host the world," added Ibrahima Wade.
For his part, Moustapha Kane, Executive Secretary General of the Federation of Employers' Organizations in the Tourism Sector, highlighted the strategic importance of this event for the national hotel industry. "The hotel sector is the primary beneficiary of this event. We have made commitments that we will uphold," he affirmed.
With over 50,000 rooms available nationwide and an average occupancy rate estimated at 40%, the Dakar 2026 YOG represents a major opportunity to revitalize the sector. Stakeholders are counting on this event to improve Senegal's international visibility and strengthen the destination's appeal.
