De la gloire africaine au banc parisien : Le coup d’arrêt pour Ibrahim Mbaye
Back at the club after a month with the national team, Ibrahim Mbaye is going through a more difficult period in the Paris Saint-Germain jersey.
Having won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, the 18-year-old winger (16 appearances, 1 goal in Ligue 1 this season) hoped to capitalize on this positive momentum. Starting in the matches against Auxerre (1-0) and Strasbourg (2-1), the Senegalese international had the opportunity to establish himself as a regular in Luis Enrique's rotation. However, according to L'Équipe, his performances have not convinced the Paris Saint-Germain coaching staff.
At the Meinau stadium, in particular, Mbaye was substituted at halftime, a decision that provoked incomprehension and frustration from him. It was a clear signal sent by the Spanish coach, keen to maintain high standards within an ultra-competitive squad.
Since then, the young talent has remained on the bench for the last three matches. Internally, the capital club justifies this reduced playing time by citing difficulties readjusting after a long stint with the national team. Returning to the club's daily rhythm, regaining his automatic movements, and meeting the tactical standards imposed by Luis Enrique will not be immediate.
PSG, competing on multiple fronts, leaves little room for error. It remains to be seen whether the young Senegalese player will be able to quickly transform this learning period into a new springboard.
