Demi-finale CAN : Koulibaly croit à la force du collectif sénégalais
On the eve of the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Egypt, the Lions' captain, Kalidou Koulibaly, spoke at a press conference.
The Senegalese central defender first wanted to emphasize the experience and solidity of the opponent. "It's a team we know well, very experienced, with many players used to playing in Africa. They were a bit outside the favorites. There was a lot of talk about Nigeria, Morocco, Ivory Coast or Senegal. But they have made their way up and they also deserve to be here," he explained.
Aware of the stakes and the level of the opposition, the Lions' captain announces a very close match.
"As the coach said, it's going to be a big match. Egypt is a respected team in Africa. But we're going to play to our strengths," he added.
Looking back on Senegal's journey in recent years, Kalidou Koulibaly highlighted the Lions' consistency at the highest continental level. "We have reached three semi-finals in the last four AFCON tournaments. This proves that we have experience, with players like Sadio, Gana, Édouard and myself," he emphasized.
But for the captain, the real strength of this team lies in the balance between veterans and youngsters.
"It's about diversity. We give young people a lot of space to tell us what's good and what's not so good. We need their talent, their enthusiasm, and their youth. And they need our experience."
Ambitious, Koulibaly reiterated the clear objective set by the group since the beginning of the competition.
"We have one objective: to go as far as possible, to play all seven matches. The coach has done everything to ensure that it goes well. He brings his own style and we follow it."
