Diomansy Kamara : "On n'en parle pas assez, mais ce que Pape Thiaw réalise est exceptionnel"

Pape Thiaw, who has been interim and then confirmed as head coach of the Lions, is gradually confirming the expectations of the Senegalese. In 10 matches on the bench, the national coach has a record of 8 wins and 2 draws, including a victory against England and especially against the DR Congo.

On the set of the show "Talents d'Afrique" broadcast on Canal Plus, former Senegalese international Diomansy Kamara praised the coach's work. "We don't talk about it enough, but Pape Thiaw is achieving something exceptional. I like these local coaches, who imbue a national identity, which allows us to reach new heights," said the former footballer turned consultant and players' agent.

For the Fulham player, Senegal under Pape Thiaw has evolved in several ways. "Beyond the race for the 2026 World Cup, this match against DR Congo (won 3-2) will be decisive. We were 2-0 down, but we showed strength of character. That's where I think Senegal took a step up. A bit like the Indomitable Lions (Cameroon) at the time. We showed that we had a backbone and that we weren't just relying on Sadio Mané," analyzed Diomansy Kamara.

During the next international break in early October, Senegal will face South Sudan and Mauritania to confirm its qualification for the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Pape Thiaw est sur une bonne dynamique. Il faut en être fier et prier pour le reste à venir. Soyons optimistes car c'était pas évident qu'on batte la RDC chez lui après être mené par 2 buts à zéro.
