Divorce avec le Rwanda : ce qui peut empêcher un retour de Cheikh Sarr sur le banc des Lions ou des Lionnes
Cheikh Sarr is leaving the Rwandan national basketball teams (men's and women's) after four years at the helm. The country's daily newspaper, The New Times, is referring to a "mutual separation" with the Senegalese coach, who had been in the position since April 2021. Does this open the door to a return to the country for the former Lions and then Lionesses boss? According to Wiwsport, he says he is willing to be "present" if Senegal needs his services.
Cheikh Sarr had stormed out of the Senegalese Basketball Federation (FSBB), denouncing dysfunctions in the conduct of the sport's affairs. "If what he denounced still exists, knowing him as a man of principle, I can't see him coming back," sighed a club president, who spoke anonymously to the newspaper Le Quotidien. He quickly added: "But as they say, never say never. There are things that only the person concerned can control."
Cheikh Sarr comes to the forefront as the national women's and men's teams finished the last Afrobasket in fourth place and bronze medals, respectively. The Lions were led by Senegalese Ngagne Desagana Diop and the Lionesses by American Otis Hughley.
