According to the association, the 41-year-old former midfielder was killed by Israeli airstrikes while waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip.
A former player for Khadamat al-Shatea in the Gaza League, Al-Obeid also played in the Jordanian League for Markaz Shabab al-Am'ari. The former international, who scored two goals in 18 appearances, according to the Transfermarkt website, is far from the only athlete to have died since the start of the Middle East conflict. According to data released by the Palestinian Football Association on July 23, 807 athletes and scouts have been killed in 670 days.
