This week, Pape Thiaw unveiled his list of 27 players selected for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. While the national coach has several certainties, he does have some questions about certain positions, particularly the striker position.
Nine Lions: 4 players for 3 spots
Nicolas Jackson, Habib Diallo, Boulaye Dia, and Chérif Ndiaye: Pape Thiaw will have to make a decision. One of these four strikers will miss out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. In recent months, all have seen playing time and scored, with the exception of Boulaye Dia, whose last international goal dates back to October 11, 2024, against Malawi. In this contest, Nicolas Jackson and Chérif Ndiaye seem to be Pape Thiaw's preferred choices, as he has called them up for almost every squad since taking over. Therefore, Habib Diallo and Boulaye Dia are the ones left to choose between.
The first player mentioned, who came on as a substitute against Mauritania last October, scored. He's also had a good start to the season with 3 goals and an assist for Metz. Diallo's playing style is similar to that of Chérif Ndiaye. Powerful and strong in the air, he could be a valuable focal point for the Lions' attack. Boulaye Dia, on the other hand, is struggling more at Lazio. He's only scored one goal this season, back in late August. But the Roma player has a game intelligence that allows him to make others shine. He also has experience, having been part of the winning squad at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

Assane Diao, is it worth taking the risk?
Assane Diao, a player Senegal considers crucial for both the present and the future, has only played one and a quarter matches for the Lions of Teranga. Since then, the winger has been plagued by injuries. While a return to action was announced, Diao has yet to set foot on the pitch, and his coach, Cesc Fabregas, is putting pressure on Senegal to allow him to fully recover. Pour Assane Diao, il faut le consulter et voir, s'il est vraiment dans les dispositions de participer à la CAN. Il ne faut vraiment pas briser son élan, on aura besoin de lui plus tard. Cependant, il ne faut pas qu'il se sente écarté non plus, s'il tient à y aller, il faut qu'il vienne sinon, il peut rester et se concentrer sur sa santé. Même situation avec Habib Diarra. Habib Diallo doit aller à la CAN. Reste à voir entre Cherif Ndiaye et Boulaye Dia. Personnellement, je suis pour Boulaye.
On a aussi besoin de milieux offensifs pour équilibrer, j'aurai tente le coup Pathe Mboup de Brest, très bon balle au pied,et laisser Habib Diarra à la disposition de son club,il revient de blessure et on a besoin de lui comme Assane Diao pour la coupe du monde.

Même si Boulaye n'a pas marqué ces derniers temps il reste de loin supérieur à Chérif Ndiaye. Boulaye est plus percutant, plus rapide et offre plus de solutions que Chérif. Habib Diallo est un vrai renard de surface. Pour moi c'est Chérif NDIAYE qui doit être laissé de côté.
Par rapport à Assane DIAO, il n'y a même pas photo, aucun besoin pressant de le convoquer alors qu'il n'est pas à 100%. il ne pourra rien t'apporter que les autres ne peuvent faire. Donc qu'il le laisse se reposer

Habib Diallo était très prometteur au début de sa carrière et il a eu à btiller dans le championnat français. Cependant, au moment oû on l’attenfait du côté de l’Angleterre, il a atterri en Asie, ce qui a un peu saboté sa carrière. Mais il nous a déjà prouvé son adresse devant le but donc il doit être de la liste. C’est plutôt Ndiaye et Dia qu’il faut mettre en ballotage. Mais puisque Dia est déjà champion d’Afrique en plus de nous avoir qualofié en coupe du monde, c’est lui qu’il faut prendre. En même temps, si NDiaye est meilleur jioueur de tête, c’est luii quî devra être dans l’avion.
Logiquement c'est Ndiaye qui doit patienter car le temps est devant lui.
Et comprendre aussi que l'équipe nationale est différente du club.
Choix difficile . Il faut faire référence aux qualités de buts marqués par chaque joueur et selon les situations. Ou consulter les cadres.
