Équipe nationale du Brésil : La surprenante demande de Lula à Carlo Ancelotti sur Neymar
While 34-year-old Neymar is doing everything he can to participate in the next World Cup, his situation continues to divide opinion in Brazil. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva believes the striker still has the ability to help the Seleção aim for a sixth world title, provided he is fully fit.
Regularly hampered by injuries, Neymar has not been called up to the national team since Carlo Ancelotti took over as manager. This situation is fueling debate, especially since the Brazilian president reportedly discussed the player's case directly with the former Real Madrid coach.
According to Lula, this exchange took place during an interview given to online media on Tuesday. "I spoke with Ancelotti and he asked me: 'Do you think Neymar should be called up?' I replied: 'If he is physically fit, he has the level to be there,'" he said.
The list of 26 players selected for the 2026 World Cup will be revealed on May 18, but many uncertainties remain surrounding the Neymar case.
Having been absent from the Seleção since October 2023, the Brazilian star sees his international future depend essentially on his physical condition, while fans still hope to see him shine on the world stage this summer.
