He may not have won anything with Cameroon, but he is one of those players who has often been in the spotlight, for both good and bad reasons. Benoît Assou Ekotto, the former left-back for Tottenham and the Indomitable Lions, was a guest a few days ago on 'Des Nuits du Cazarre enchaîné', a show broadcast on RMC.

 

"Samuel Eto'o is a bit of a show-off, but I like him."

 

The former footballer stated on occasion that Samuel Eto'o was the proudest player with whom he had shared a dressing room.

“Samuel Eto’o is a big shot, but I like him. I’ll explain why. One day he owed me maybe 500 or 1,000 euros, I don’t remember, and we were at the table. I went around, put my hand on his shoulder, and said: ‘Sam, please, give me my money.’ He looked at my hand like this and said: ‘My boy.’ I said: ‘Samuel.’ He said: ‘My boy, be careful with that shoulder,’” recounts Assou-Ekotto.

 

"Since he's my striker and I need him, I thought maybe his shoulder was hurting. So I said, 'Does it hurt?'..."

The Franco-Cameroonian said he initially thought the striker was experiencing shoulder pain.

"Since he's my striker and I need him, I thought maybe he had a shoulder injury. So I said, 'Does it hurt?' He said, 'No, it's carrying three Champions League trophies,'" quipped Assou Ekotto, triggering barely contained hilarity on set.

It must be said that Samuel Eto'o has often been accused of having an oversized ego. He has always refuted this, highlighting his performances and brilliant career which, according to him, deserve respect.
