FOOTBALL : LE PALMARÈS COMPLET DU CHAMPION DU MONDE 2018 SAMUEL UMTITI QUI PREND SA RETRAITE
Thirty-one-year-old footballer Samuel Umtiti, a world champion with the French national team in 2018, announced on Monday, September 15, that he was retiring from the sport. He's left with a well-stocked trophy cabinet.
A page is turning. Defender Samuel Umtiti, a product of Olympique Lyonnais and former French international , has been without a club since leaving Lille last summer. He announced the end of his career on Instagram on Monday at the age of 31.
"After an intense career with ups and downs, the time has come to say goodbye... I gave EVERYTHING with passion and I regret NOTHING," said the 2018 world champion, who has played for Lyon, FC Barcelona, Lecce (Italy) and Losc.
Affected by numerous injuries for several years, Samuel Umtiti, who scored the winning goal in the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup against Belgium, is the fifth Frenchman crowned in Russia to end his career, after Raphaël Varane, Blaise Matuidi, Adil Rami and the most recent Steve Mandanda.
