France - Maroc : la FIFA refuse d’annuler le carton jaune de Michael Olise
The French Football Federation (FFF) learned on Wednesday that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will uphold the yellow card given to Michael Olise during the World Cup round of 16 match against Paraguay (1-0) last Saturday. This decision puts the French international at risk of suspension ahead of the quarter-final against Morocco, scheduled for Thursday.
A warning contested by FIFA
Michael Olise was booked in stoppage time of the match against Paraguay following an altercation with Paraguayan defender Matias Galarza. According to the French Football Federation (FFF), the French striker did not actually make contact with his opponent during the dispute. Deeming the sanction unjustified, the federation appealed to FIFA to have the yellow card overturned.
Olise under threat of suspension
This decision now puts Michael Olise in a precarious position. Like any player booked in the Round of 16, he will face an automatic suspension if he receives another yellow card on Thursday against Morocco. Such a sanction would rule him out of a potential semi-final, a scenario that adds further pressure to the entire French tactical setup as they approach this high-stakes match.
