Match amical : L’Allemagne montre sa force et donne confiance
Germany, the overwhelming favorites for the World Cup, boosted their confidence ten days before the tournament. On Sunday evening, the Mannschaft faced Finland in a friendly match in Mainz. The four-time world champions hoped to secure a win before the start of the World Cup in North America, and Julian Nagelsmann had a wealth of attacking options at his disposal to make things easier.
On the other side, Finland approached this match with a very different status. Jacob Friis' men had failed to qualify for the World Cup and appeared to be the underdogs on paper.
From the outset, Joshua Kimmich's teammates maintained possession. Their early attacks, both through the middle and down the wings, put pressure on the Scandinavians' goal. Thanks to a pinpoint cross from the Munich player, Deniz Undav headed home the opening goal (34th minute, 1-0). The Stuttgart striker wasn't finished: he then provided an assist for Florian Wirtz (48th minute, 2-0) before scoring his second goal (57th minute, 3-0). Jamal Musiala, unmarked just outside the box, also got on the scoresheet after the hour mark (63rd minute, 4-0). An attacking masterclass and a victory that speaks volumes about the Germans' motivation before the start of the tournament.
