Rumors had been swirling since Monday: Rennes coach Habib Beye was expected to be sacked. However, according to the French website OnzeMondial, he ultimately led his team against Toulouse on Wednesday.
The match ended in a frustrating 2-2 draw, despite Rennes having taken the lead. After the game, president Arnaud Pouille clarified the situation on Ligue 1+, confirming that Beye would remain in his position.
“Regarding the match, there was a lot of frustration, that’s what I told the team and the coach in the locker room, but we have faith in them,” said Pouille. According to him, the club is going through a difficult period: “The club has been in a bad place for a while now, we’re trying to turn it around, and our position in the standings is relatively precarious compared to our objectives. So naturally, that puts pressure on us, and actions are being taken, which often cause a stir.”
The president explained the context of Monday, when the staff thought they were being dismissed: "Monday was an incredible day because we received a meeting with the staff to ask them if they still had the energy to come to Toulouse. They said they still had the energy, we talked about the issues to improve things, we confirmed them until tonight, hoping it would be good to get a result in Toulouse."
