Hervé Renard : Un avenir tourné vers la Coupe du monde… sans oublier l’Afrique
Currently in charge of the Saudi national team, Hervé Renard keeps his feet on the ground and his eyes on the future. As the crucial deadlines for qualifying for the 2026 World Cup approach, the French coach remains focused on his mission in Saudi Arabia, while also hinting at his future aspirations, where Africa still holds a special place.
"Where do I see myself in ten years? For now, I'm thinking about my future until October 14," he confided in an interview with the newspaper "L'Équipe," referring to the second playoff match against Iraq. A not-so-profound response, coming from a coach whose career is closely linked to the destiny of African football.
Renard, who made history by winning two African Cups of Nations (with Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015), has never turned his back on the continent that has given him his greatest emotions. "I know I will return to Africa one day. When I am sent back here, perhaps, or when I have to return. It is destiny that will choose," he declared.
At 57, the technician's career is not about to end. Ambitious, he is already looking ahead to the 2034 World Cup, scheduled for Saudi Arabia. "I hope to be in charge of a national team for the 2034 World Cup, which will take place here," he hopes. "I'll only be 66 or 67, that's fine!"
