According to the daily newspaper Source A, a shockwave has rippled through the Senegalese horse racing world: Mouhamadou Lamine Diop has been removed from the presidency of the National Horse Racing Management Committee (CNG CH). This decision by the Ministry of Sports, by decree signed on January 10, is all the more surprising given that the outgoing president's record, after only two years in office, is considered "exceptional" by those involved in the sector.
In his two years at the helm of the committee, the newspaper praised him, he had modernized the sport, increased the number of race days—from 18 to 26 per year—decentralized events across the country, and improved prize money for participants. He had also provided the CNG CH with a headquarters, established a VIP lounge and a VAR room at the Ndiaw Macodou Diop racetrack, and promoted the international training of jockeys.
The same source reports that, out of solidarity, 16 of the 17 former staff members retained by the ministry have resigned. These technical experts, key figures in the organization, say they do not understand the departure of a leader who "brought horse racing to unprecedented heights."
The new leadership is now entrusted to Amadou Bassirou Fall. Upon assuming his duties, he nevertheless made a point of paying a heartfelt tribute to his predecessor, even requesting a standing ovation for his "remarkable work." Source A also notes the arrival of Madiop Pekh as head of the communications committee.
With this wave of resignations, one question remains: when will the horses return to the track? The ministry is now working to find replacements in order to save the season, the daily newspaper reports.
