The first leg of the Champions League round of 16 kicked off on Tuesday. Bayern Munich, with Nicolas Jackson in the starting lineup, thrashed Atalanta 6-1. The Senegalese international striker scored Bayern's fourth goal in the 52nd minute.

Struggling in the Premier League, Pape Matar Sarr's Tottenham suffered a heavy defeat in Madrid against Atlético (5-2). Argentine striker Julián Álvarez, who scored twice and provided an assist, was the Spurs' tormentor.

At St. James' Park, Newcastle and Barcelona played to a 1-1 draw. Harvey Barnes opened the scoring in the 74th minute. In stoppage time, Lamine Yamal equalized from the penalty spot in the 96th minute.
