« Ils sont des trophées de guerre » (ASC Lébougui)
Concern is growing in Senegal, especially in Dangou (Rufisque), where four of the 18 supporters detained in Rabat for the past 22 days come from. Blaise Niang, president of the legal committee of ASC Lébougui, interviewed by the specialized newspaper Record, denounces a situation he considers inhumane.
According to him, the rights of the defense are being violated: "As proof," he criticizes, "they haven't even allowed the lawyer to meet regularly with the detainees. Out of 18 people, the lawyer is only allowed to see five. It's unfair."
Faced with this lack of transparency, the supporters have begun a hunger strike to demand a fair trial with their legal counsel present. Blaise Niang even suggests political manipulation, fearing that our compatriots are being used as "war trophies" by a country that still hasn't gotten over its defeat in the AFCON final against Senegal.
The breakdown in communication with families is exacerbating the anxiety. "They haven't called for a few days. Even if they say they are fine, we know it's not easy to be detained there," confided the source to the sports daily.
Bitterly, he concluded: "We have no hope, honestly. The Moroccan prosecutor and judge have no intention of giving them a fair trial."
Finally, the ASC Lébougui manager points to the inaction of the Senegalese authorities. He laments that only the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has been involved, while the Ministry of Sports is conspicuous by its absence.
