JOJ Dakar 2026 : Le Programme Volontaire JAMBAAR26 officiellement lancé
The countdown to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) reached a decisive milestone with the official launch of the JAMBAAR26 Volunteer Programme this Sunday at the African Renaissance Monument. The ceremony, held under the banner of civic engagement, youth, and the lasting legacy Senegal hopes to leave through this global event, highlighted the importance of this event.
At the heart of this initiative are the volunteers, the true backbone of the Games. 6,000 young women and men will be mobilized to welcome delegations, guide spectators, assist athletes and officials, and ensure the smooth running of the "Olympic machine".
Ibrahima Wade, coordinator of the COJOJ, emphasized the much broader scope of the Youth Olympic Games. "The Youth Olympic Games, it cannot be stressed enough, are not just a sporting competition. They are also a cultural project, a youth project, a legacy project. And throughout this multidimensional adventure, there is an essential and irreplaceable force: the volunteers," he reminded everyone.
The choice of the name JAMBAAR26 is not insignificant. It is intended as a strong tribute to the partnership with the Senegalese armed forces. "Jambar is someone who is courageous, someone who serves others with dignity, commitment, and determination. It's not just about giving one's time; it's about upholding values, being useful to one's country, and participating in something greater than oneself," emphasized Ibrahima Wade.
For his part, Diagna Ndiaye, president of the Organizing Committee for the Youth Olympic Games (COJOJ), shared a powerful personal experience from previous Olympic Games in Australia to encourage public support. "All of Australia was mobilized for the Games. I think it's really important to feel useful. I invite you all to embrace these Olympic Games. We will all be in this together. Dakar will welcome not only Africa, but the entire world," he declared.
Through JAMBAAR26, Dakar-2026 is counting on an engaged youth, ready to serve and aware of its role in the success of a historic event, the first Olympic Games organized on African soil.
