"Les Bleus sont prévenus" : Le journal "L'Equipe" impressionné par la prestation du Sénégal face au Botswana
The French, Senegal's first opponents at the 2026 World Cup, were closely following the Lions of Teranga's entry into the 2025 AFCON. After a clear and flawless victory (3-0) against the modest team of Botswana, the newspaper "L'Équipe" was won over by the Senegalese match.
In its edition of Wednesday, December 24, journalist Hervé Penot, special correspondent for the French sports media outlet, was full of superlatives regarding the performance of Idrissa Gana Gueye and his teammates. "The French national team has been warned. They will have to be ready from their opening World Cup match on June 16 against Senegal. The Lions of Teranga confirmed yesterday the promise they have shown for months by easily defeating Botswana (0-0). The opponent was certainly no African powerhouse, but Pape Thiaw's men made it easy for themselves, which is never a given when starting a major tournament," the newspaper reported.
While a lack of efficiency was mentioned, "L'Équipe" nevertheless highlighted the numerous quality attacking moves by Pape Thiaw's team. "The fluidity of certain movements, at times in a downpour in Tangier, and the control with which they played were undeniably impressive. We sensed a team confident in itself, in control of its tempo, capable of using the wings, of pinning the opposition back in the center," the newspaper continued.
On Saturday, facing better opposition, "L'Equipe" and the French will once again closely follow their next opponent at the World Cup.
