The Senegalese Ligue 1 is playing its 17th matchday this weekend with several crucial matches both in the title race and in the fight to avoid relegation.

New league leaders AJEL of Rufisque (1st, 30 pts) travel to the Dakar suburbs to face AS Pikine (5th, 21 pts). It's a high-stakes match between a Rufisque side eager to consolidate their first place and an ambitious Pikine team determined to secure a home victory.

Second-placed US Gorée (2nd, 27 pts) visits bottom-of-the-table Guédiawaye FC (16th, 12 pts). The islanders will be aiming for a win to reclaim the top spot in the league, while Guédiawaye will be looking for their second consecutive victory to climb out of the relegation zone.

Still lurking in the shadows, Teungueth FC (3rd, 27 pts), boasting the best defense in the league with only two goals conceded, hosts Linguère of Saint-Louis. The Rufisque side, who defeated US Gorée last week, will be looking to build on that success and put pressure on AJEL.

At the Aline Sitoé Diatta stadium, Casa Sports (4th, 25 pts) hosts ASC HLM (14th, 15 pts). The Ziguinchor team, who have drawn their last three matches, will be looking to get back to winning ways and climb into the top three.

At the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium, Jaraaf (7th, 21 pts) faces US Ouakam (8th, 20 pts). The reigning Senegalese champions, the Medina club, haven't won since Matchday 9 and will have to be wary of a confident Ouakam side after their 2-1 victory against AS Pikine.

At the Caroline Faye stadium, newly promoted Stade de Mbour (11th, 16 pts) hosts Génération Foot (6th, 21 pts) in what promises to be a hard-fought match.

At the Lat Dior stadium, Sonacos (13th, 16 pts) hosts Wallydaan (10th, 18 pts). The Diourbel team, with the second-worst defense in the league having conceded 20 goals, will need to tighten up their defense to hope for a positive result.

ASC Cambérène (15th, 13 pts), currently in the relegation zone, travels to Dakar Sacré-Cœur (9th, 19 pts), who were heavily beaten (3-0) by Guédiawaye FC in the previous matchday.
