Ligue 1 France : Un joueur rend hommage à Razak Omotoyossi, lors du match Lorient-Rennes

Yesterday, Sunday, August 24, FC Lorient faced Rennes in a match counting for the 2nd day of Ligue 1. Habib Bèye's men, reduced to 9, suffered a severe thrashing (4-0).

After Sambou Soumano opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time, Beninese international Tosin Aiyegun added to the score early in the second half from a corner by Arsène Kouassi.

“RIP Omogoal”

After his goal, the FC Lorient striker lifted his shirt, revealing a pink t-shirt that read: "RIP Omogoal."

"Omogoal" is the nickname of former Beninese international Razak Omotoyossi, who died last Tuesday in Lagos, Nigeria, in circumstances that remain unclear.

This is a beautiful tribute from Tosin to the former goal scorer of the Ecureuils du Bénin (now the Cheetahs).

It must be said that Razak Omotoyossi was discovered at a very young age. He participated in the 2005 Junior CAN and then in the World Cup of the category in the Netherlands.

Scorer during the 2008 and 2010 CAN

The young striker then confirmed all the good things people thought of him, becoming a formidable center-forward in the senior team. He notably helped the Squirrels qualify for the 2008 CAN in Ghana, then the 2010 CAN in Angola.

Benin unfortunately failed to pull off a winning run in these continental contests, being eliminated in the first round. Razak still scored in both of these AFCON finals. This proves that his nickname "Omogoal" was well-deserved.
