Litige Sénégal - CAF : pourquoi la FSF retarde son recours au TAS
Despite the media frenzy of the past 24 hours, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has not yet officially appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to contest the CAF's decision awarding the title to Morocco by default. While the intention to bring the case before the Lausanne-based body is clear, the necessary administrative steps are still pending, reports L'Observateur.
The newspaper of the Future Media Group, citing sources close to the case, reports that the FSF's team of lawyers is currently finalizing the details of its arguments, while remaining cautious. "A case of this magnitude is not filed lightly," confided a sports lawyer on condition of anonymity, warning that a simple procedural flaw or inaccuracy could prove fatal.
Now, it's a real race against time before the March 27 deadline. In accordance with Article 48 of the CAF statutes, Senegal has ten days from the notification of the appeals jury's decision, dated March 17, to take action. Although some members of the FSF Executive Committee are calling for calm in the face of the fans' impatience, the room for maneuver is dwindling. The Federation, however, refuses to act hastily, preferring to proceed "in a very calm and clear-headed manner" in order to best defend the interests of Senegalese football.
