Mamadou Sarr : cinq choses à savoir sur « l'héritier de 2002 »
At just 20 years old, central defender Mamadou Sarr is the new star of the Senegal national team. Former captain of the Bleuets and winner of the 2022 U17 Euro, Pape Sarr's son has chosen to wear the Lions jersey to honor the family legacy. Retracing his career, L'Observateur points out that his market value, which is around 13.12 billion CFA francs, is a testament to his immense potential. Excerpts.
1- New Lion
The 20-year-old central defender is tipped to be on Pape Thiaw's squad for Senegal's final two matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, against South Sudan and Mauritania.
2- Heir of 2002
He is the son of former Senegalese international Pape Sarr (2002 generation), which strongly reflects his choice to return to his father's country.
3- Player profile
Nicknamed "The Rock," he is a modern defender: solid in duels, fast, and excellent at passing. He is often compared to Kalidou Koulibaly and is considered a "major reinforcement."
4- Former captain of the Bleuets
Born in Martigues, he was a pillar of the French youth teams (U17 to U20), notably winning the Euro U17 in 2022. He decided to turn the page on the "Bleuets" for the Senegalese selection.
5- In Real Madrid's sights
Trained at Olympique Lyonnais, Mamadou Sarr signed for Strasbourg in August 2024 for 6.56 billion CFA francs (€10 million). He was then recruited by Chelsea in June 2025 for 9.84 billion CFA francs (€15 million), but was subsequently loaned to Strasbourg to complete his development. His current market value is estimated at 13.12 billion CFA francs (€20 million), and he is closely followed by Real Madrid.
