Just weeks before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, the atmosphere surrounding the Tangier stadium, slated to host the Lions of Senegal, was cast a pall over by a tragic accident. What should have been a moment of celebration for Moroccan football turned into a human tragedy.
According to the Moroccan press, a young cleaning technician lost his life after a fatal fall while cleaning the exterior glass facade of the stadium. The accident has deeply saddened the city's residents and the national sporting community. A minute of silence may be observed before the kickoff of the Atlas Lions' first friendly match tomorrow, Friday, against Mozambique, to honor the victim's memory.
This tragedy occurred just as the Tangier stadium had completed a major renovation phase in preparation for hosting matches of the Moroccan national team.
