Marseille : Benatia conforté, Habib Beye peut enfin signer
While Habib Beye had been waiting since Sunday and the announcement of Medhi Benatia's resignation, the return of OM's football director on Tuesday should allow the former defender to take the coaching position.
The announcement of Medhi Benatia's resignation on Sunday triggered profound changes at Olympique de Marseille, starting with the coaching position. In the preceding days, the director of football had been leading discussions to make Habib Beye the successor to Roberto De Zerbi, and the two men were scheduled to meet on Monday to finalize the deal. Everything was put on hold by Benatia's announcement, and Beye had to spend the last two days waiting for the situation at the top of the club to become clearer.
With the statement released Tuesday morning by owner Frank McCourt, reinforcing Benatia's position, everything is in place to break the deadlock. This turnaround revives the Beye option, who is not far from Marseille as he lives in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. He has been traveling back and forth between Paris and the region since leaving Rennes on February 9th, and is currently on a train heading south.
He must immediately resolve another issue: he has a video conference at 2:15 PM with the LFP's legal committee to settle the dispute with Stade Rennais. After that, the focus will be on finalizing the arrangements so he can take over the Marseille team and prepare for their Ligue 1 match against Brest on Friday.
