Marseille : Habib Beye out, son successeur connu
Olympique de Marseille announced in a statement on Wednesday that they had appointed Bruno Genesio, former coach of Lyon, Lille and Rennes, as their new coach.
Genesio, 59, replaces Habib Beye, whose departure was announced by OM on Tuesday after only four months in charge. "By choosing to join Olympique de Marseille, Bruno Genesio demonstrates his commitment to the club's project and his ambition to build a team capable of establishing itself as a leading force in French and European football," OM wrote in its statement.
For several weeks now, the Genesio saga at OM had been reported by several sports media outlets as settled, or nearly so. But the Marseille club had several pressing matters to attend to: its appearances before the DNCG (French football's financial watchdog) and UEFA's supervisory body, as well as discussions related to the termination of Habib Beye's contract.
While all the L1 clubs have long since announced their training restart date, OM was therefore lagging behind but will now be able to get ready.
"I chose to join Olympique de Marseille because I was attracted by the challenge presented to me. OM is a unique club, with an exceptional history, a strong identity and supporters whose passion is recognized far beyond its borders," said Genesio, quoted in the club's press release.
The coach who is therefore in charge of launching the transformation and reconstruction of OM will lead his fourth L1 club, after having already occupied the benches of Lyon (2015-2019), Rennes (2021-2023) and Lille (2024-2026), which he has just left after two successful seasons.
