Mascotte de la RD Congo : Michel Kuka « Lumumba » honoré par son pays
A revelation in the stands during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Michel Kuka Mboladinga, better known as "Lumumba," has made a lasting impression far beyond the pitch. Having become a true popular icon thanks to his still and solemn posture, inspired by the father of Congolese independence, Patrice Lumumba, the emblematic supporter was officially honored by the authorities of his country.
Despite the Democratic Republic of Congo's Leopards being eliminated in the round of 16 by Algeria (1-0 after extra time), Michel Kuka received significant recognition. The Congolese Minister of Sports, Didier Budimbu, presented him with a Jeep as a token of appreciation for his commitment and the exceptional visibility he brought to the country's image during the competition.
Always impeccably dressed, in a colorful tie, dark trousers, and with his arm raised to the sky, Michel Kuka remained true to his symbolic pose at every DR Congo match. This attitude quickly made him the unofficial mascot of the Leopards and a viral figure on social media across the African continent.
Although the cruel defeat against Algeria brought a few tears to the face of this passionate and sensitive man, this distinction recognizes his patriotism and his unifying role around the national team.
Already looking to the future, Lumumba now dreams of new African stages during the 36th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for the summer of 2027 in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. Even better, the Congolese mascot can hope for an appearance on the world stage: the Democratic Republic of Congo is still in contention for qualification for the 2026 World Cup in North America. A prospect that promises more powerful images… and once again, the motionless silhouette of Lumumba in the stands.
