Matchs amicaux : Le Maroc annule les rencontres de l’Ouganda en raison des inquiétudes liées à Ebola

The Ugandan national team's friendly matches scheduled to take place in Morocco have been cancelled for health reasons, amid a resurgence of Ebola cases in Uganda.

Morocco has decided to cancel the friendly matches of the Ugandan national team scheduled to take place in Marrakech against Tanzania and Madagascar, the Ugandan Football Federation (FUFA) announced on Wednesday.

In an official statement, FUFA expressed its regret: "The Ugandan Football Federation (FUFA) regrets to announce the cancellation of the Cranes' two international friendly matches against Tanzania and Madagascar, which were scheduled to take place on June 5 and 8, 2026 in Marrakech, Morocco."

According to the Ugandan federation, this decision is linked to concerns raised by Moroccan authorities regarding the resurgence of the Ebola virus disease in Uganda. "The cancellation was communicated through the match organizers and justified by health and public health reasons, in accordance with the directives of the competent authorities," the statement specifies.

According to data from the Ugandan Ministry of Health, several new cases have recently been detected, bringing the total to around fifteen confirmed cases, including one death.

The Cranes delegation, already in Morocco for the matches, must now return home. "The Ugandan delegation had already arrived in Morocco in preparation for the matches. Following this cancellation, the members of the delegation will return to their respective destinations," added FUFA.

Beyond this cancellation, the situation also highlights the persistent difficulties related to sports infrastructure in Uganda, which still lacks stadiums that meet international standards. The country is nevertheless committed to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which it will co-host with Tanzania and Kenya.

Le Maroc préfère jouer les petites équipes pour soigner leur classement FIFA.
