Matchs truqués en Turquie : la justice ordonne l’arrestation de 29 joueurs et deux présidents de club
The Istanbul prosecutor's office is continuing its sweeping crackdown on Turkish football. On Friday, the court ordered the arrest of 46 people, including 29 professional players, as part of a large-scale investigation into illegal betting and match-fixing.
According to the prosecutor's statement, 27 of the players involved are suspected of having bet on matches involving their own team, a practice strictly prohibited and severely punished by both sporting and judicial authorities.
The investigation doesn't end there: two club presidents are also the subject of arrest warrants. They are accused of attempting to influence the outcome of a third-division match during the 2023-2024 season.
This case, which is once again shaking up Turkish football, could lead to heavy sporting and criminal sanctions for those involved.
