Monaco : Krépin Diatta retiré de la liste pour la Ligue des champions
Senegalese international Krepin Diatta will miss the remainder of the Champions League. Last September, AS Monaco used a provision in UEFA regulations allowing them to replace any player on their Champions League squad list who is injured for an estimated period of at least 60 days. Thanks to this rule, Krepin Diatta (26 years old, 2 Champions League appearances this season) was registered in place of Denis Zakaria (29 years old), who was unavailable at the time.
But after a two-month absence, the Monaco captain has returned. As a direct consequence, Denis Zakaria has regained his place on the European squad list, and the versatile Senegalese player has been automatically removed from it.
This is a damaging situation for the new coach, Sébastien Pocognoli, who is placing a lot of faith in the player who came through Oslo FA.
“Krépin is an essential player in my system. Since my arrival, he has really been performing at a very high level. But the decision had been made before me, so we adapt,” explained the Belgian coach, who had not participated in drawing up the list at the beginning of the season.
AS Monaco will, however, have the opportunity to review its choices in January, when the lists for the knockout stage are updated, provided of course that the club is still involved in the Champions League.
